welcome to the
Blues Class
Older preschoolers are focusing on social-emotional development as they become more independent, engage in cooperative play with friends and negotiate social issues. Dramatic play becomes more elaborate as they become comfortable working with others in cooperative play and incorporating their social and community experiences. An emphasis is put on fostering the love of books and encouraging children at their own pace to explore pre-reading skills, writing and drawing. At this age, the child is working on self-help skills like zipping jackets, following simple routines and transitioning between activities. They still turn to adults for guidance and support, but are becoming more independent in everything from play to problem solving. Adults take on a supporting role helping model and guide them when they are having difficulties. The skills they are learning at this age, including turn taking, being able to participate in group activities, forming friendships and becoming more independent, are the foundation for success in elementary school.
