Kindergarten Class

The Kindergarten class is a 3-day a week after-school program that follows a developmentally appropriate curriculum and complies with the Fairfax County POS (Program of Studies). It is a small class with a maximum of ten children with two teachers. This allows for daily one-on-one instruction and very small group and learning. 

 

These are some of the topics covered in kindergarten:

  • Letter and Number writing and recognition following the Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum
  • Science-The Five Senses, Weather and Season, Plants, Lifecycles, Properties, and Force & Motion
  • Social Studies – Citizenship, Then & Now, Around the World, My Community
  • Math – One to One Correspondence, Money and Currency, Place Value, Graphing, Measurements
  • Reading and Writing – Handwriting Without Tears, Guided Reading, Sightwords, Journaling 

Eligibility: For 2021/2022, children with birthdays between 10/1/15 – 9/30/16

Tuition: $8,010 for the 2021/22 school year ($890 per month)

Class hours: Mon, Tues, Thurs 9:15-3:15/ Wed, Friday 9:15-1:15

Maximum enrollment: 10 students

In the morning, the Kindergarten class joins the Reds class and follows their schedule until 12:30 when Kindergarten begins. Parents with a child in this class can expect to co-op in the school approximately 8-10 times during the school year. Parents are also asked to drive on 2-3 field trips.

A typical day in the Kindergarten class looks like: 

9:15 – Playground Arrival Time

9:30 – Morning meeting

9:40 – Gross Motor Playground time

11:15 – Come inside for lunch

11:30 – 12:30 – Lunch and indoor play

12:30-1:30 – Whole class group activity

1:30-1:45 – Snack

1:45-2:45 – Small group activity (Handwriting/Reading, Math, Project Based Learning)

2:45-3:15 – Playground

3:15- Dismissal
